DIY Home Recording Studio – The Basic/essential Equipment to Get You Going:

  1. A computer (Mac/PC.. Whatever you know)
  2. A “DAW” (Digital Audio Workstation) – A fancy way of saying “Recording Software” like Logic, Garageband, Reaper, Sonar, Ableton, etc…
  3. An audio interface – This is what connects your instruments and/or microphones to your computer (these can be single track or allow for multiple inputs)
  4. Monitors – Speakers or Headphones for mixing and listening to your music. If you are purchasing studio monitors make sure they are self powered or you will need to purchase an amplifier to power the speakers.
  5. A “relatively” good microphone AND  a pop filter (for sudden bursts of air from the mouth) – usually for voice you want a large diaphram condenser mic
